Recipient of the Writer’s Trust Rising Star’s award (2022), and Congolese author of the award-winning debut Shut Up You’re Pretty, which won the Edmund White Debut Fiction Award (2020), the Trillium Book Award (2020), and Canada Reads finalist (2024), Téa Mutonji’s long-awaited novel, My Person, for fans of Monica Heisey, Raven Leilani, Sally Rooney and Ottessa Moshfegh, which relays, in a deeply intimate conversational style, the life of young “accidentally bestselling” Black writer Tania Johnson, as she is mid-break-up with her life-defining BFF following years of betrayal, micro-aggressions, and heartbreak, and mid-breakdown that threatens everything she’s built, including her new book deal, in a two-book deal, in a six-figure deal, to Sarah Jackson and Sue Kuruvilla at Random House Canada (Canada, English), by Rachel Letofsky at CookeMcDermid Literary Agency.
